TEAM LEADING AND MANAGEMENT

Introductory Certificate in Team Leading

The Level 2 Introductory Certificate in Team Leading aims to give practising or potential team and cell leaders the foundation for their formal development in this role.  The programme has two primary objectives:

  •  to assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a team/cell leader

  •          to develop basic team leading skills

 

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring team or cell leaders. There are no formal educational requirements but learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme

 

Duration

 

 

Structure

Minimum of 22 guided learning hours, including assessment, to be completed within one year

 

  •   Short Induction lasting 2 hours, plus

  •   Core segment  “The Role of the Team Leader”, plus

  •   Five further segments selected from the full range available in the Certificate in Team Leading (minimum of one from each module)

 

                       Assessment and associated tutorial support – 2 hours

Certificate in Team Leading

Integrated:  A single Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading is awarded on satisfactory completion of the whole programme and assessments

 

Modular:  One Certificate of Module Credit in Team Leading is awarded on satisfactory completion of the learning and development for the module, and the Knowledge Assessment. Where a participant achieves all four separate Module Credits and goes on successfully to complete the additional assessment requirements (Presentation and Mini-Project), then a full Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading is awarded.

 

Assessment

 

Each participant must complete to a satisfactory national standard

 

  • a Knowledge Assessment (one question per segment)

  • a short Presentation, and

  • a Mini-Project 

 

 

 

 

Level 3 Introductory Certificate in First Line Management

The Level 3 Introductory Certificate in First Line Management aims to give practising or potential Managers the foundation for their formal development in this role.  The programme has two primary objectives:

  •   to assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a manager

  •   to develop basic management skills

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring first line managers.  Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme

Minimum of 34 guided learning hours, excluding assessment, to be completed within one year

 

  • Short Induction lasting 2 hours, plus

  • 10 segments (minimum) of 3 hours each as follows:

    •  Problem Solving Skills

    •  Planning Change

    •  Using Information for Decisions, plus

  • At least a further seven segments selected from the full range available in the Certificate in First Line Management with not more than three from any one module overall

          Tutorial support for development and assessment – 2 hours

  •  Work-based Assignment of not less than 1000 words, set by ILM

Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management

The Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management aims to give practising or potential Managers the foundation for their formal development in this role.  The programme has two primary objectives:

  •   to assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a manager

  •   to develop basic management skills

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring first line managers.  Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme

  • Project of not less than 2000 words

  •  Summative Personal Development Record (centre assessed, for full qualification only)

  •  Group Meeting with (and assessed by) the External Verifier

 

 

 

 

Level 5 Introductory Diploma in Management

The Level 5 Introductory Diploma in Management aims to give practising or potential middle managers the foundation for their formal development in this role.  The programme has two primary objectives:

  • to assist participants in gaining the knowledge required by a middle manager

  • to develop middle management skills

 

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring middle managers.  Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

Level 7 Introductory Executive Diploma in Management

The Level 7 Introductory Executive Diploma in Management aims to give practising or potential senior managers the foundation for their formal development in this role.  The programme has two primary objectives:

  •  to assist participants in gaining the knowledge required by a senior manager

  •  to develop senior management skills

 

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring senior managers.  Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

COACHING AWARDS

Level 3 Certificate in Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers

The Level 3 Certificate in Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers aims to develop team leaders and first line managers to provide workplace coaching to members of their teams or others whom they manage.  The programme has two primary objectives:

  •  to provide candidates with an understanding of coaching and its role in improving team members’ performance

  •  to develop candidates’ skills to perform effectively as workplace coaches

 

 Participants will normally be either practising team of cell leaders or first line managers.  They should normally have successfully completed a programme leading to the award of the ILM Level 2 Certificate or Introductory Certificate in Team Leading or the ILM Level 3 Certificate or Introductory Certificate in First Line Management, or an equivalent qualification and have experience of working in a role at this level. Exceptionally, candidates who have no formal qualification in team leading or first line management, but who have several years experience and have completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.

 

Duration

Minimum of 24 guided learning hours, excluding assessment, plus six hours of practical coaching activity, to be completed normally within one year.  Total notional learning time is likely to be at least 30 hours

Structure

  • A short induction lasting 1 hour, plus

  • Minimum 2 hours’ tutorial guidance, plus

  • One 15-hour module: G1 Coaching Skills and Standards for Managers

  • One 6-hour module:    G2 The Coaching Process for Managers

  • A Coaching Diary, recording their personal development, their coaching practice and their reflections on that practice.

 

 

Level 5 Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring

The Level 5 Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring aims to give managers the capability to coach others in their organisation and to be confident to act as a mentor developing people’s performance in their work roles and supporting them in their career development and personal growth. 

 

The programme has two primary objectives:

  •  to enable candidates to understand how coaching and mentoring can improve performance and support individuals to develop themselves and their careers

  •  to develop the skills candidates need to perform effectively as coaches and mentors

 

The qualification is designed to support and develop Coaching and Mentoring for Managers practice - it is a condition to the delivery of the programme that candidates are able to put their skills into practice.

 

Participants will be practising managers.  They should normally have successfully completed a programme leading to the award of the ILM Level 3 Certificate or Introductory Certificate in First Line Management or an ILM Level 4 Diploma or Introductory Diploma in Management, or an equivalent qualification and have experience of working in a role at this level. Exceptionally, candidates who have no formal qualification in management, but who have several years experience and have completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.

 

Candidates should normally also possess communication skills equivalent at least to Key Skill Level 3 in Communication or receive additional support to enable them to achieve this level in the course of the programme

 

Duration

Minimum of 45 guided learning hours, excluding assessment, plus 12 hours of practical coaching activity, to be completed normally within one year, or up to a maximum of 2 years.  Total notional learning time is likely to be at least 60 hours

Structure

  • A short induction lasting 1 hour, plus

  • Minimum 2 hours’ tutorial guidance, plus

  • One 30-hour module:       H1        Developing Performance through Management Coaching and Mentoring

  • One 12-hour module:       H2        Management Coaching and Mentoring practice

 

  • A further 12 hours practical coaching activity (Segment H2.3) is a mandatory requirement for candidates, in addition to the 45 guided learning hours.

Level 7 Diploma in Leadership Mentoring and Executive Coaching

The Level 7 Diploma in Leadership Mentoring and Executive Coaching aims to give managers, HRD specialists and consultants the capability to act as a mentor or executive coach in order to develop clients’ leadership skills and support their career development and personal growth.  The programme has two primary objectives:

 

  • to enable candidates to understand the nature and role of executive coaching and mentoring in developing leadership capability and supporting clients to develop themselves and their careers

  •  to develop skills candidates need to perform effectively in the role

 

The qualification is designed to support and develop the practice of Executive Coaching and Mentoring in Leadership - it is a condition to the delivery of the programme that candidates are able to put their skills into practice.

 Participants will be practising managers, HRD professionals or consultants, with experience and/or training and qualifications in management and leadership and in HRD or related disciplines.  They should normally have successfully completed a programme leading to the award of the ILM Level 4 Diploma or Introductory Diploma in Management or an ILM Level 5 Executive Diploma or Introductory Executive Diploma in Management, or an equivalent qualification, or have experience of working in a role at this level. Alternatively they may have HRD or consultancy qualifications, such as the ILM Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring. Exceptionally, candidates who have no formal qualification in management or HRD, but who have several years experience of working at a senior level in management of HRD and have completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.

 Candidates should normally also possess a high level of communication skills equivalent at least to Key Skill Level 4 in Communication or receive additional support to enable them to achieve this level in the course of the programme.

BUSINESS START UP

Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Starting Your Business

The Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Starting Your Business is a new qualification designed to cover the key areas to be considered when starting up a small business, or a distinct business unit within a larger organisation.  The programme has these primary objectives:

  • to raise participants’ awareness of the issues involved when starting a small business

  • to assist participants in gaining and applying the basic knowledge and skills required for starting a small business or business unit

 

Participants will normally be intending to start their own small business, with a specific business idea in mind.  Alternatively, they may be running a discrete business unit within a larger organisation, which may be a free-standing cost or profit centre.  Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme. This is likely to be Level 2 Key Skills Literacy and Level 1 Key Skills Numeracy, or their equivalent.  Where intending learners do not have this level of literacy and numeracy, Business Works can provide support prior to the start of the programme

 

Duration

 

 

Structure
