Brushcutters/Trimmers

Course Objectives To enable course members to:
bullet State and comply with safety and legal requirements of a brushcutter/trimmer, with an emphasis on safe practices, warning signs and guards
bullet State and identify the correct protective clothing to wear and the standards required
bullet Perform routine maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook
bullet Identify faults and defects on a brushcutter/trimmer and decide which the operator can easily remedy, and which should be referred to a specialist engineer
bullet Identify which cutting head to select for the relevant operating conditions
bullet Carry out fuel mixing correctly and be able to start the brushcutter/trimmer from both a hot and a cold condition in a safe manner
bullet Operate the brushcutter/trimmer in a safe manner
bullet Plan systematic working operations
Who is the Course For? Any person who is or will be required to operate brushcutters/trimmers. Inexperienced delegates may require longer than the stated guide times to fully utilise the information supplied
Duration/Format

Experienced Operators - One day - 6 hours (inclusive of health and safety)

Novices - 2 days

 Course Content
  • Health and Safety;
  • Protective clothing;
  • Components and maintenance;
  • Fuelling and starting;
  • Testing the safety features;
  • Checking the Brushcutter/Trimmer;
  • Safe operation in a variety of operating conditions
  • Integrated Assessment
Facilities/Equipment required: Venue
  • Warm, well lit room with adequate tables and chairs in open U, lighting and power points. Washroom and toilet facilities.
  • Site near the training room for the practical sessions
  • 1 brushcutter per 2 trainees

Trainee

  • Pens and notebooks
  • Boilersuit, gloves, protective footwear, ear defenders, hard hat with visor /goggles,
