Course Objectives |
At the end
of the course, participants will be able to:

develop knowledge covering the requirements of current legislation |

learn how to use pesticides appropriately and safely, and keep proper
records |

understand how to store pesticides correctly |
 |
learn how to clean equipment, and dispose of unwanted pesticides and
containers |
 |
cover procedures for dealing with contamination and poisoning
incidents |
All without risk to self or third party |

Who is the Course For? |
- This course is a must for all those employed in agriculture or
commercial horticulture who are involved in the storage, handling and
application of pesticides. Course members should be able to read. A code
of practice specifies the knowledge and skills required of a competent
operator.

Duration/Format |
- One day for experienced operators - classroom and planned visit.
NB: A two day course is recommended for trainees of
little or no experience |

NVQ/SVQ Linkage |
This course contributes towards achievement of NVQ/SVQ
Forestry Level 1 provided that the trainee satisfactorily completes the
relevant elements and units contained within the NPTC/SSTS assessment
schedule. |

- Current legislation Interpreting labels and literature
- Personal hygiene Selecting and using protective clothing
- Preparing pesticides for use Storing pesticides
- Transport and temporary storage of pesticides Disposing of empty
containers, surplus
- Dealing with accidental contamination of people unused pesticides and
washings
- Keeping records Environmental factors

Facilities/Equipment required: |
Venue
Warm, well lit room with adequate tables and chairs. Mains water
supply/drain. Washing facilities. Pesticides store close to course venue.
Trainee
Protective clothing to include respirator, face shield, goggles, hood,
rubber gloves, rubber coat, and apron and coverall.
