Core Skills

"Core Skills are the broad, transferable skills that help to develop the main capabilities people need to be full, active and responsible members of society. Core Skills contribute to employability, and are a component of Modern Apprenticeships in Scotland"

The Workplace Core Skills Units are designed for use with SVQs, within Modern Apprenticeships, or more generally within the workplace. There are 20 Units - one at each of the four levels for each of the five Core Skills - from Access 3 through to Higher.  Core Skills include:

  • Communication
  • Numeracy
  • Information Technology
  • Working with Others
  • Problem Solving

We can work with you to improve the core skills of your workforce and help them to achieve a certificate through Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)
